What is micro-needling?

Micro-needling, also known as collagen induction therapy, is a cosmetic procedure that uses tiny needles to create controlled micro-wounds. This process triggers the skin’s natural healing response, spurring vibrant new collagen and elastin production. This aesthetic procedure is used to treat the appearance of fine lines, acne scars and improve the skin’s overall appearance.

To achieve the desired results, your physician may recommend a course of sessions based on your individual goals.

what to expect

Before getting started

Your doctor will use a topical anesthetic to reduce discomfort.

During the procedure

Your doctor will make small pricks under the skin with a pen-like tool. The pricks are so tiny that you likely won’t notice them after the procedure is over. The tool will be moved evenly across your skin promoting even skin regeneration. Most patients experience little to no pain during micro-needling, and our staff works to ensure treatments are as comfortable as possible.

After your micro-needling treatment

You may notice minor skin irritation immediately following the procedure. You may also see redness for a few days. Significant results can be seen in the following days and weeks with continued improvements for up to six months as your skin produces new collagen.

Micro-needling With Platelet-Rich Plasma

Platelet-rich plasma, or PRP, is a common add-on to microneedling.

With this add-on, a syringe of blood will be drawn, usually from your arm, while your face is numbing before the micro-needling procedure. The blood is put into a centrifuge, which separates the PRP from other components of the blood. The PRP solution is then massaged into the treatment area, usually after micro-needling.

Because the micro-needling treatment creates small controlled micro-punctures in the skin, this allows the PRP to penetrate into the skin.
